Grok Bot Explained: What an AI Teammate Actually Does

Most AI waits for your next question. Grok Bot keeps working on its own computer after you close the laptop. Here’s what it is as of October 2026, how it works, and where I’d point it first.

You’ve seen AI write an email. You’ve seen it summarize a document. Then you still had to open the CRM, copy the data over, click save, open the next tab, and do it forty more times.

That last part — the clicking — is where most of your week actually goes.

Grok Bot is built for that part. It doesn’t just tell you what to do in your software. It goes into the software and does it.

Here’s the plain-English version, as of October 2026.

What is Grok Bot?

Grok Bot comes from SpaceXAI (formerly xAI), the company behind Grok. It was released in beta on August 11, 2026, and the company describes each bot as an “AI teammate.”

Picture a new hire who gets their own desk, their own computer and their own logins. You show them a job, they do it, and they keep doing it after you go home. That’s the mental model.

Availability is limited to certain paid plans — check the current plan page. It runs on desktop (macOS, Windows, Linux) and iOS, with Android planned.

How Grok Bot works

Six capabilities make it different from a chatbot. Each one matters for a different reason.

It has its own always-on computer

Every bot works on a persistent cloud computer with a browser, files and its own logins. Your laptop can be closed. The bot keeps going.

Why it matters: work that used to wait for you to sit down can move overnight.

It uses software like a person

The bot clicks, types and moves between pages to finish multi-step tasks. It doesn’t need a special integration for every app — if a person can do it in a browser, that’s the kind of work it’s built to attempt.

Why it matters: much of small-business admin lives in web apps that don’t talk to each other. A bot that can operate the screen bridges that gap. (In AI jargon, this is often called computer use. The AI glossary defines the other terms you’ll run into.)

It remembers

It keeps context from earlier sessions and factors in your corrections.

Why it matters: you correct it once, not every morning. That’s the difference between a tool and a teammate.

It learns from a recording

Teach-a-task works like this: you do the workflow on screen one time while it records, and the bot turns that recording into a skill it can repeat.

Why it matters: the hardest part of delegating is explaining. Showing is faster. But a recording only shows what you did, not why — so pair it with a written brief. I walk through both in the Grok Bot training plan.

Several bots can work together

You can run more than one bot at a time, and they can message each other.

Why it matters: one bot pulls the report, another updates the records. That’s a small multi-agent system — and it only works if each bot has one clear job.

It keeps working without you

Because it runs in the cloud, a bot can finish a long task while you’re in a meeting, at dinner or asleep.

Why it matters: it also means you need rules for what it’s allowed to do unsupervised.

Grok Bot vs a chatbot vs automation

Chatbot Rules automation Grok Bot
What it does Answers and drafts Runs fixed if-this-then-that steps Operates software to finish tasks
Handles messy screens No No Built to try
Learns your way of working Within one chat Only if you rebuild it Remembers corrections across sessions
Needs supervision Low Low once tested High at first

None of these replaces the others. Rules automation is still the best tool when the path never changes. A chatbot is still the fastest way to draft. Grok Bot fits the messy middle — multi-step work across web apps that used to need a person. My guide to agentic AI covers where each belongs.

What I’d hand a Grok Bot first

Start internal, recurring and boring:

  • Pulling a weekly report from a web dashboard into a spreadsheet.
  • Copying new form submissions into your CRM.
  • Researching a list of prospects or vendors into a sheet you review.
  • Checking a set of pages or listings for outdated details and flagging them.

Every one of those is a candidate to test with a human checkpoint — not a promise of what it will do in your business. I list more in Grok Bot use cases.

The guardrails I’d put on Grok Bot

An agent that can click and type in your systems deserves more care than a chatbot.

  • Give each bot its own login, never yours, with the least access the job needs.
  • Keep a human approval step on anything that sends, spends, signs or deletes.
  • Start with read-heavy jobs before write-heavy ones.
  • Don’t let a bot contact customers by phone or text without counsel’s sign-off — AI voice calls fall under the TCPA, and business texting needs consent and A2P 10DLC registration.
  • Review its work daily until you’ve seen a long stretch of clean runs.
  • Keep one named human owner per bot.

And read the company-level due diligence too. I like this product for business, and I still wrote a full page on whether Grok is safe for business because you deserve both sides.

Why Grok Bot is part of my business pick

For business, I pick Grok Business — and where a plan includes it, Grok Bot is the piece that does the work. The workspace gives you the controls; the bot gives you a teammate that does the clicking. The full reasoning is on the Grok for business page.

I run my own AI chief of staff on a different stack because I built it around my exact operations. If you want that kind of always-on operator built for your company, see how Chief works.

Your next step

Write down one job you do in a browser every week. Every click, every decision, every “it depends.” That page becomes your first bot’s brief. Then follow the seven-day plan and watch the bot earn your trust one task at a time.

Questions people ask

What is Grok Bot?

Grok Bot is an AI agent from SpaceXAI, released in beta on August 11, 2026. The company calls each bot an “AI teammate.” Each one works on its own always-on cloud computer with a browser, files and its own logins, and operates software by clicking and typing to finish multi-step tasks.

Does Grok Bot keep working when my computer is off?

Yes. As of October 2026, each bot runs on its own persistent cloud computer, so it keeps working when your device is off. That’s also why it needs supervision rules: it can act while you’re not watching.

Can I use Grok Bot on my phone?

As of October 2026 it’s available on desktop (macOS, Windows and Linux) and iOS, with Android planned. It’s available on certain paid plans — check the current plan page.
